The Perfect Tuscan Vacation

Visitors to Tuscany expect a once in a lifetime experience, and this beautiful region of Italy rarely disappoints. With activities and pursuits that can thrill everyone in the family, the perfect Tuscan vacation is easily within reach. Here is a suggested itinerary that will give you a good taste of everything the region has to offer.

Perhaps the best place to start your trip is in the world famous city of Florence. Florence (or Firenze, in Italian) is easily accessible from international destinations by plane. Before you arrive, book accommodation; whether you choose a hotel inside of the city or one of the holiday villas in the Florence hills, you’ll want to take care of this detail ahead of time to ensure a bed.

During the day, wander through the countless museums, galleries, and piazzas, taking in your fill of phenomenal masterpieces that have enchanted visitors for hundreds of years. All of the major artists from the Renaissance have work on display, including, Michelangelo and Donatello. For science and history buffs, there are exhibits dediated to famous people such as Galileo, the Medicis, and Machiavelli.

Once you’ve had your fill of the city, head outside of Florence to explore the other things that Tuscany has to offer. As in Florence, you’ll want to secure accommodation in San Gimignano ahead of time. The “City of the Beautiful Towers” is a great example of Etruscan culture, with its world famous Duomo and the Church of St. Agostino.

From San Gimignano, take a scenic drive to Siena, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Siena Duomo, completed around 1380, is truly one of the most magnificent sites in the entire region. The Piazza del Campo is another great spot, perfect for people watching.

Another great activity you can experience while in Siena is attending a sporting event. In particular, A.C. Siena, which plays at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, is a great way to experience Italian sport firsthand. As far as accommodation goes, you shouldn’t have a problem finding one of the cute, cozy Siena vacation apartments, especially if you’re visiting outside of the busy summer season.

For your final destination before heading back to Florence, check out the town of Cortona, located in the province of Arezzo. The main sight here is the Piazza Garibaldi, located at an altitude of 600 meters. From there, head to the Diocesan Museum, where you can view two gorgeous pieces by the master Fra Angelico.

The area is also famous for its architecture, with a prime example being the Santa Maria Nuova, built in 1554. For those looking to avoid renting a car, there is a direct train to the town from Florence. A Cortona holiday is a great way to experience the quieter side of Tuscany.

Wherever your vacation takes you, you’re sure to enjoy the beautiful sights, sounds, and tastes of wonderful Tuscany. This is truly a region unique from others in Italy, with something wonderful for all visitors. With a bit of advance planning, you can book the perfect Tuscan vacation.
