Last night I was pulling into my parking spot after a long -but fun!- night (that story I?ll get to in a moment). As I pull in, I always have to drive past the dumpster. That night as I got out of my car I noticed there was a strange noise coming from the dumpster then out climbs the biggest raccoon I had ever seen! It was staring straight at me. I didn?t know what to do, nor if there were others close by that I didn?t see. We were at a stand still. I had no idea what to do. I remembered watching 20/20 episodes (an American investigative tv show) on "what to do if a Mountain Lion or Bear attacks you" but never if a RACCOON is confronting you! I stood quietly facing him, avoiding direct eye contact, until he retreated back to the rotting goods in the dumpster and I quickly scampered to my front door.?It was an entertaining surprise!
Prior to that furry surprise, a very dear friend from Spain was in Madison visiting everyone. About 10 of us went out to dinner and such. It was great visiting with all my Spain friends again. The night was filled with Spanish Punctuality, delicious food, many laughs and lots of code switching (jumping between languages). There were times I wasn?t sure what language I was speaking but I knew that no matter what it was, I understood it and somehow the waitresses understood what we wanted. It felt great to exercise my language muscles like that! Oh, and we all polka danced to a live polka band! What a night!
Since graduation, I have been busy with lots of activities – even babysitting. I always love seeing Hannah and Joe, a former coworker?s children. I?m going to miss hanging out with them from time to time once I move to Chicago!
Today I drove down to Chicago to visit my future roommate. He showed me that my room, bathroom, closets and half of the garage are all prepared for me to move in. I officially signed the lease that starts a week from today!! I really could not be more excited to move!
Packing is going well. I had hoped to be 100% packed by tonight but because some other unexpected events arose (like my Spanish friend?s visit) that I couldn?t pass up I have a bit more packing to do. The kitchen is mostly packed and half of my room is ready to go. I hear there is a heatwave coming through this week so that might slow me down (we don?t have AC! boooo) but I?ll get through it by Saturday afternoon.
